I need help identifying this bush that I have growing in my backyard. There used to be two large lilac bushes growing in that corner, one bush on each side of the fence, but growing together in one big bunch. When they built that house next door earlier this spring, they tore out the lilac bush that was growing on their side of the property line. Once they did this, we discovered a different bush that had been growing underneath the lilac bushes. A couple of weeks ago, it bloomed with thousands of pretty white flowers. Most of the flowers are gone now, but I managed to snag a couple of pictures. I have no idea what kind of bush this is.

The bush stands about 8 feet tall. The right side of the bush is what is left of the lilac bush. It bloomed pretty white lilacs about six weeks ago, but they died off already. These white flowers I'm talking about are most definitely not lilacs.

This is a close-up of the flower itself. Fully open, it's about the size of my palm. I have small hands though. It has little yellow thingies popping up in the middle.

This is one of the leaves. The leaves are a bit smaller than the flowers.

Any ideas?

I'm watching CNN and they are showing a pretty big fire that has popped up next to a freeway down there in New Orleans. They are talking about how a number of fires have popped up all over town and the difficulty that the firefighters are having in putting out the fires because they can't get to them because of the flooding and debris. Why haven't they brought in some of those big helicopters that they use for forest fires? The ones with the big buckets that they use to scoop water out of lakes and oceans and then dump them on top of the burning forest.

There has been a rather sad legal case winding its way through the courts here in this county in the last couple of months. On January 26, 2005, Lance Cpl. Allan Klein, 34, of Clinton Township, Mich., died when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. His divorced parents have been fighting for custody of his remains ever since. Instead of being given a proper burial, his remains are being stored in a crypt in a Roseville cemetary while the courts try to figure out where the young man belongs. His mother, Rae Oldaugh, wants her son to be buried with full military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetary which is still under construction. His father, Manfred Klein, wants his son buried in his family's plot in Croswell. Here is a link to the story:

Lawsuit over soldier's remains to "go the distance"

The remains of a U.S. Marine killed in Iraq will stay at a Roseville crypt while his parents continue to battle over who has lawful custody of his body after a judge refused Monday to dismiss a civil lawsuit.

The divorced parents of Lance Cpl. Allan Klein, 34,have been locked in litigation over his body since June. Attorneys for his father, Manfred Klein, were asking Macomb Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski to dismiss the lawsuit by ex-wife Rae Oldaugh in part because the decision allegedly falls to the U.S. Marine Corps and not civilian courts.

Druzinski ruled Monday that the dispute falls under her jurisdiction and has sufficient grounds to go forward in her court. Although no date is set, Druzinski's ruling means the case will proceed to trial and both sides expect it will "go the distance" with little chance of a settlement.

"I was disappointed with the ruling denying our motion (to dismiss), but much of today was really procedural," said Derek Wilczynski, an attorney for Klein. "And I will be talking with my client about a possible appeal to this decision."

Klein's body has been stored at a crypt at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Roseville while the case remains in dispute.

The Kleins have been frustrated by months of delays in burying Allan. Manfred said he wants to bury Allan at a family plot in Croswell, in Sanilac County. Oldaugh, however, has said her ex-husband previously agreed to a different burial site.

Recently both sides uncovered new evidence that appears to strengthen their respective positions.

A key issue in the dispute has been a military document that lists Oldaugh as Klein's emergency contact and custodian of his remains. At first officials had only an unsigned version of that form, but they
have since received an official, signed version from the Marine Corps.

That would appear to strengthen the mother's legal position, but both sides also indicate Klein had a former fiancee before getting called overseas, and that former girlfriend is prepared to testify that Klein
wanted to be buried at his father's family plot.

"But that's her knowledge of what he might have wanted at the time they were together," explained the mother's attorney, Daniel Shemke. "At the time of his death they were no longer together, and she only has knowledge from before he even went to Iraq."

Oldaugh has wanted to bury her son's remains in the anticipated Great Lakes National Cemetery, devoted to veterans of all branches of the armed forces. But that facility has yet to open despite breaking ground last October, and Klein has said he is frustrated with repeated delays. He wants his son buried at a family plot near Croswell, and attorneys in the case said Monday that several past compromise proposals have been rejected.

Military policy creates an order of succession as to who gains custody of a soldier's remains, and some have argued the older of the two surviving parents has precedence in cases like these. Oldaugh is 58 and Klein is 65. But Allan Klein's remains haven't been in military custody for some time.

Originally Klein had consented to Oldaugh's burial plans. So now, with Druzinski's ruling, the case appears to be firmly within the realm of the civilian courts.

Colin Farrell is another in a long line of celebrities who thought it would be cool to videotape himself having sex with someone, a Playboy Bunny no less, and then acts shocked when the girl turned around and tried to sell the tape for a lot of money. Here is a hint Colin: If you are a public figure and you don't want embarrassing things coming out about you, maybe you should stop preening in front of the camera and think before making the sex videotapes in the first place! Anyone with half of a brain knows that if you videotape or take pictures of yourself doing raunchy things, the potential for those images to end up in the wrong hands is pretty high. Especially in this day and age. Of course, I fully expect the images to get released anyway once Colin Farrell works out the financial arrangements so that he ends up getting the majority of the profits. Look what sex tapes did for Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. They ended up making millions of dollars off of their sex tape.

I was just reading this semi-bizarre news story out of Pittsburgh. The basic premise is not unusual in itself. There was a family argument and a man pulled out a rifle and shot his sister and brother-in-law to death. What makes the case so unusual is that his parents, himself, the two victims, and the victims' four children are all deaf and mute. I don't think I've ever heard of an entire family being deaf/mute like that. I'm assuming some sort of genetic disorder.

Prince Charles has finally been given permission to marry his long-term mistress, Camilla Parker-Bowles. However, because she is a divorcee and because of public opinion, she will never be named Queen. She will be known as the princess consort once he ascends to the throne. I personally feel that he should have pulled the same trick that his great-uncle, King Edward VIII, did and told the family to go screw themselves and abdicated the throne so he could marry Wallis Simpson.

I wish I could get over this obsession I have with the British Royal Family.

Norwegians Confused by Bush Salute

OSLO, Norway - Many Norwegian television viewers were shocked to see U.S. President George W. Bush and family apparently saluting Satan during the U.S. inauguration.

But in reality, it was just a sign of respect for the University of Texas Longhorns, whose fans are known to shout out "Hook 'em, horns!" at athletic events.

The president and family were photographed lifting their right hands with their index and pinky fingers raised up, much like a horn.

But in much of the world those "horns" are a sign of the devil. In the Nordics, the hand gesture is popular among death metal and black metal groups and fans.

"Shock greeting from Bush daughter," a headline in the Norwegian Internet newspaper Nettavisen said late Wednesday above a photograph of Bush's daughter, Jenna, smiling and showing the sign.

Bush, a former Texas governor, was simply greeting the Texas Longhorn marching band as it passed during the Washington D.C. parade in the president's honor, explained Verdens Gang, Norway's largest newspaper.

Just the same, the Internet was abuzz Thursday with speculation about what the Bushes really mean by the sign.
